Alright, I’ll show my age a little here in the beginning. A long, long time ago, there was a country western group called the Sons of the Pioneers, and one of their biggest hits was a song named “Cool, Clear, Water.” Last Saturday on our trek along the Wolf River Greenway in Collierville, TN, Monica and I came across a stream of sorts that was feeding into the river. The sunlight was perfect at the time for some great shots. There was still some dark and shadowy areas, but the sunlight was being captured in the water droplets, creating all the colors of the rainbow as they pulled away from the flow and just floated in mid air for a second or two.
If you look closely at the first two pictures below the title, you can see glimpses of reds, yellows, blues, and orange. Each droplet is acting to refract the sunlight into is individual base colors, and our Nikon D7200’s did an amazing job at freezing those moments and capturing those colors.
In the featured photo above, right in the middle of the photo, there is one larger water droplet that has that star shaped reflection of sunlight. We could see these glimpses as the water was rushing by, and was hoping we would be able to catch one – and thankfully we succeeded. I had to set my shutter speed to 1/8000 and was able to “freeze time” and capture that moment. What a thrill when we got back home and discovered that small little reflection of sunlight.
I have a few more photos to share with everyone in the coming days from our long walk along the river. My leg is still a little sore, showing my age once again, but it was all worth it for a great day of photography.
