Here we are in our new area: Baton Rouge! Because of a job transfer Monica and I are now living just outside of Baton Rouge. Already we have found some great places to get some bird shots. These photos today are taken in and around the Atchafalaya Swamp area. By the way, it is pronounced ah-chafa-laya.
The birds above are of course the Great White Egret. What a majestic bird and here they are in full breeding plumage. Complete with the long separated flowing feathers, a green colored mask around the eyes, and just a bright whiteness that is sure to attract a mate.
One of my favorites is one that Monica took, with the reflection just below him in the water. But they are all beautiful nonetheless. We have been able to capture some great shots of Egrets over the last year or so, but this is the first time that we have been able get shots of them in full breeding plumage.
We have a lot more places to visit and I’m sure a lot more birds to capture in our cameras. Just a little foreshadowing, yesterday we spotted three Bald Eagles in about 15 minutes and got a lot of shots off. I haven’t had time to look at them yet, but hoping they turn out good.
Until next time, get out there and get some photos. From my camera to yours, “Enjoy Our Wonderful World!”
