After a long winter hiatus, it was a welcomed treat to once again get out the camera and head outside. Even though I’m originally from this area, and spent most of my life here, there is still a newness to photographing here in the north. I must say, we still greatly miss the southern temperatures and the much larger variety of birds to see even on a daily basis, but we have some plans this year to hopefully get more acclimated to our available area.
Pictured in this photo-blog is the American White Pelican. Although I’ve seen these before in the south, this is a first for me here in Ohio. The lot of them were all sitting on a log out in the middle of the water, very far away, and with their backs facing me for the most part, made getting some good shots very challenging. However, I think I was able to capture a few good pics and some action shots.
It was still pretty cold this morning, and standing right on the water’s edge, certainly didn’t make things any warmer. But it was exciting to see these 12 pelicans just hanging out. I’m really not sure how long they will be here at Cowan Lake, and probably no one but the pelicans really do know, but at least I got to enjoy them while they are here for now.
As always, I hope you enjoyed the pictures. I know it has been a long time since my last blog post, but I do have some other pictures to post soon. The same morning I was able to get some Great Blue Heron’s and actually a new bird sighting for me…the Common Merganser.
